What should have been a drill Mediterranean cruise was brought to an abrupt halt Friday, January 13th. At 10:30 p.m. the Costa Concordia, one of Costa's sumptuousness ships, struck a reef off the coast of Giglio, Italy causing a merciless 160-ft long gash to its hull, flooding the ship with drench and forcing the evacuation of near 4,200 people, including party. Accoriding to Fox News, Gianni Onorato, a top Costa top dog, claimed that the cause of the wreck was a reef/rock that the Concordia struck. The captain, Schettino, is a Costa mature of 11 years, and the cause of the collision with the reef/rock is still being unyielding. Officially, this tragic accident has claimed five lives, one Peruvian team member, two French tourists, and two unidentified elderly men ( BBC News ). Now the record of missing persons is down to 17 from 40 ( BBC News ).  Around 30 of the passengers were mortally injured ( Francesco Paolillo, Fox news ). According to ANSA, two survivors, a honeymooning South-Korean connect, were rescued from their cabin late Saturday. Another survivor has been rescued this morning who unchanging severe leg injuries.
