PASADENA - All but a month after the police department switched to a digitally encrypted radio signal, diocese leaders still have no plans to allow local media live access to police officers chatter, officials said.
Pasadena began employing the system on Jan. 7, switching from an analog radio signal to an encrypted signal that prevents journalists and hobbyists from monitoring the supervise signal.
On Friday, Pasadena police Lt. Phlunte Riddle said the activity be contingent was unsure whether it could accommodate the media with digital scanners.
Riddle said the greatest organization remains officer safety.
"People who do bank robberies use scanners, and Radio Gyves sells these things cheap," Riddle said.
"We just had a hijack today on Hill Avenue and Washington Boulevard," Riddle said. "The last fashion I want to do is to have the helicopter or the officers set up on the street and the criminals have a scanner and know where our officers are.
