Some music fans respect the guitars owned and played by George Harrison, in his Beatles calling and as a solo artist, as sacred relics that might still contain fragments of their former instructor’s spirit.

Dhani Harrison, the son and only child of George Harrison, appreciates why the instruments he inherited from his forebear are so venerated but sees things slightly differently.

“Paintings should be in museums and should be proficient to be seen,” he said. “Instruments should have to be played every once in a while. Otherwise, they’ll be lost.”

Although he can’t share his father’s guitars with anyone who would like to pick them up and play them, Harrison is providing iPad owners with an interactive way to pore over the cherished instruments.

A new iPad app that Harrison helped imagine — the Guitar Collection: George Harrison — was released on Thursday.

At a expenditure of $9.99, the app offers users detailed 360-degree studies of some of his first-class-known gear, its history and other background information, and sights and sounds of the guitars in skirmish. Dhani Harrison, who is 33 and a rock musician in his own right, said he, too, reveres the instruments.
