Cal Poly football will walk off more regional and national exposure thanks to a new deal reached between DIRECTV Sports Networks and the Big Sky Forum.
The Mustangs will join the Big Sky Conference for the 2012 season.
The conference entered a five year accord to make DIRECTV Sports Network and its ROOT SPORTS regional networks the union's official TV partner and the home of Big Sky football and basketball. Financial terms of the act were not released.
The ROOT SPORTS networks reach more than 8.7 million viewers across 18 states that cover Oregon, Washington, Montana and Colorado. They are carried by Comcast, DIRECTV, DISH Network and more.
They will televise up to 18 Big Sky football games each edible, beginning in 2012. All games will be distributed in High Definition.
"Our agreement with DIRECTV Sports Networks and Pedigree SPORTS solidifies our position as a major player in Division I football in the western Common States," said Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton. "This is a landmark grapple with for the Big Sky Conference, as it will increase our exposure regionally and nationally in football and basketball.
