During Cisco’s Q1 Fiscal Year 2012 earnings call last November, Chambers said the set-top will endure an essential device with its television service provider customers, who are looking to rely on a cloud-based architecture that can hand over both cable and IP programming. He added "I think for anybody that thought we'd desert the set-top boxes, they just didn't understand service providers.
