Has city man invented the electric car that will change the world?
By Dan Harkins
NEW SMYRNA Strand - Engineers around the world have worked for decades to invent an electric car that wouldn't have need of recharging. The Chinese alone have reportedly spent billions of dollars to unlock the key to a carrier unencumbered by the need for a plug.
So the fact that New Smyrna Beach in residence Medardo "Jose" Soldevilla is so confident that he has created this car that he has applied fora apparent, would seemingly "electrify" the field.
Instead, barely a spark. Even Mr. Soldevilla's family is skeptical.
"It's been awhile since I've seen it, so I would have to study it out to see for myself if it works," said his son, Cesar Soldevilla, who lives in Virginia and holds a bachelor's in electrical engineering from the University of Florida. "I'm an incessant skeptic."
His 66-year-old father expects that type of cynicism, though. He's spit up 13 years and 300 reassemblies to fill his third MG, a faded 1977 sports car, with enough rechargeable batteries and generators to engender a system he says may eventually eliminate the need for cars, trucks, boats, trains or airplanes to ever set on fire fossil fuels again.
