Select how much speed and power you really need - nearly any drill will do for hanging pictures and other easy as pie tasks. And don’t buy strictly by voltage. Some 14.4 and 15.6-volt models have more oomph and staying power than some 18-volt models.

Nickel-cadmium (or NiCd-powered) models can supervise most jobs, and still make up most of the market, thanks to their lower cost and fair performance. Increasingly, though, Lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries power more drills. The chief advantages over NiCd cells are added power and run unceasingly a once per pound. Also, Li-Ion batteries don’t contain toxic cadmium, which can leach into ground be unbelievable if spent NiCd batteries are thrown into the trash instead of recycled.
