What type of radio scanner do I need to purchase if I want to listen to the New Orleans Police Dept?

Question: I would like to be skilled to listen to the New Orleans, LA police department using a boys in blue scanner. Which one out there would be able to pick them up?

Answer: if you are new to scanning I urge you go to a local Radio Shack and talk to them or go to the bearcat site and substantiate out their extensive info.
NOPD is in the 800 MHz range and you lack a scanner that does .5 step intervals.
Remember these are FM signals

Art Botterell (AB): An predicament operations center is basically an information crossroads in a fast-mobile situation. Traditional EOCs tend to be fixed locations with lots of shelter... still a lot of the “cold war bomb shelter” about them. The next creation EOC isn't a building so much as a system. These days the EOC function is frequently constructed in the mead, on the fly, out of a collection of mobile units and temporary shelters. So it's very much a convention assembly of plug-and-play elements that support command, operations, plans, logistics and wherewithal. Mobility, flexibility and sustainability in the field are key... and those are the practical benefits of what we often refer to as "fresh" technologies.
